The Setup

Spent the last day setting up our booth at BOWS. It was super tiring and a few of us only managed to reach home at past mid-night!

And now there’s barely 4 hours before I have to set out for the big event, having yet to catch a single second of sleep, all thanks to the usual disappointing iTunes. But enough about that.

Here’s a picture of our booth taken last night!

There’s some setup shots, hiding in my phone somewhere and if I manage to find some time, I may post them up, just for fun.

Before I end this post, would love to use this opportunity to thank those involved in the setting up of our booth, my dearest xinyang, DIY king Amos, strong arm Garick, mr do it all Sebastian, le Boss Jonathan, n most importantly the lady who saved us from a transport nightmare n made sure our canvases n frames stick firmly to the wall, ma fav cuzzie Stephanie!!

The next 3 days will definitely be a blast and I am sure looking forward to meeting all you peeps :) Cheers!!!

(Gentle Reminder that the Blissful Outdoor Wedding Show is at Dhoby Ghaut Green (adjacent to Dhoby Ghaut MRT, Exit B), and we are open between 14 – 16 Oct 2011 from 12 noon to 10pm daily. Lookout for us at booth M3)

Master Photography Awards 2011

Hot on the heels of me receiving 7 IPA honorable mention awards, I received news that I received Merit Awards for 7 images in another Competition. This time, it’s the Master Photography Awards 2011! 7 is fast becoming my new lucky number!! Anyway here’s the excerpt from the email I received.

Singapore based photographer, Michael Chan has won 7 merit prize in a major international photography awards.

Michael is now in the finals of the forthcoming Master Photographer of the Year Awards 2011. The Awards are run by The Master Photographers Association (MPA), the UK’s most respected organisation for professional photographers.

Michael now goes forward to the final judging and faces a nervous few weeks while he waits until the Awards Ceremony in October when the overall winners will be announced. The Master Photography Awards 2011 presentations ceremony will be held at the Gateshead Hilton in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne on Sunday 9 October.

MPA Chief executive, Colin Buck made this comment on Michael’s achievement: “It is exciting to reach the Merit award stage of judging as Michael was in competition with the very best photographers in the world. There were over 2,500 images submitted this year so to be awarded a Merit prize is a real success, well done to Michael, and good luck in the final!”

For further information on Michael’s photography, visit his website at www.expressivelyjoho.com to find out more about the MPA go to www.thempa.com

And the following 7 images are the ones that received the Merit Awards.

Website update + Singapore Tatler’s “The Best of Singapore 2011″ Wedding Photography

It has really been quite some time since I last updated my images on our expressivelyjOhO website, ever since 12 Feb 2009 to be exact!!! hahahaha

The lack of updates is in part due to the slightly more tedious process of updating the website proper, and also because I have also been truly busy over the last couple of years, both with work and with my personal life (having to contend with my newborn over the last 7-8 months). Add to that, the ease of updating the blog segment and/or facebook fanpage, led me further away from a long overdue website image refresh.

Well, I finally ended my procrastination a couple of nights back, when I took a couple of hours and sat thru a few batches of images i’d taken over the last year or so and picked out some for the update. Many thanks also to Sebastian, my trusty assistant for helping me with the  uploads and making sure the page scrolls/work properly.

So please take a stroll down memory lane with me as we peruse through some of my newer works & of course even those that goes way back to when I first started wedding photography. Cheers!!

On  a side note, would also like to mention that we’ve been nominated for Singapore Tatler’s “The Best of Singapore 2011″ for Wedding Photography, and that’s the 2nd year running we’ve been given the award. So here’s a big thank you to everyone for your continued support and encouragement.

The Power of 3

It’s officially 3 years since I went into full-time photography and I am glad to say that life has treated me fairly well over the same period of time.

Of course, it wouldn’t have been any good without all you lovely people supporting me through my journey thus far.

Thanks to all of you, my friends, my couples, my fans, who put your trust in me! You made me believe I can be more than I ever could be.

To commemorate this little milestone of mine, I am offering the next 3 couples that sign up for my Wedding Day services, a 10 percent discount off my hourly rates + a free 11″ by 7.5″ fine art print (T&C applies).

Yep, all these discounts are not a company wide promotion and are coming off my poor little pocket so I cannot go crazy and offer like 30 couples! hahaha

But fret not, for those who miss out on the 3 very limited places mentioned earlier. I will be offering a 15 percent discount on all enlargements (Canvas & Fine Art Prints) signed during the next 3 months, ending on 31st Aug 2011.

I hope to be able to bring you nice people more great deals and wonderful images in the years to come! Cheers!!!!

New Album & DVD Covers

In an effort to streamline and improve on our Company Identity, we have made changes/improvements on various fronts, including our latest project on albums & DVD covers. We really love our new covers, in awesome looking Oxford Bronze, exuding sophistication and elegance at the same time. In fact, I’d found some time to take some pictures of the covers and have posted them below for your viewing pleasure. Hopefully, you guys will love the new covers as much as we do.

Sometimes less is more

This is gonna be the first christmas in a long while, where my wife and I will not celebrate with a nice dinner or attending a party. It’s the first christmas with our baby girl, Claire and seeing as she’s only about 3 weeks old, we are staying home and having confinement food for celebration! (punch fist in the air and say “YEAHH!!”) haha

Surprisingly, I don’t miss the usual hooha as much and am actually looking forward to spending some quiet, quality time with Xinyang and Claire at home. I guess sometimes, less is really more.

Here’s wishing all you nice people a Fantastic Christmas filled with fake snow, balloons and booze!! (pls do not drive if you drink though!! haha) Have fun!!

Winning Entries in 2010 International Photography Awards

Amidst the gloomy outlook over the past few days (being down with flu and all) I received some good news which cheered me up a little. I submitted 4 images for the International Photography Awards (IPA) a few months back, of which 2 of them received Honorable Mention! Obviously it is disappointing not to get the top prizes but considering there were nearly 15,000 submissions from 103 countries across the globe. Coming up against so many top photographers worldwide and appearing in the honorable mention list ain’t too shabby anymore if you ask me :)

IPA is a sister-effort of the Lucie Foundation, where the top three winners are announced at the annual Lucie Awards gala ceremony. The Foundation’s mission is to honor master photographers, to discover new and emerging talent and to promote the appreciation of photography. Since 2003, IPA has had the privilege and opportunity to acknowledge and recognize contemporary photographers’ accomplishments in this specialized and highly visible competition. Visit www.photoawards.com for more details.

Here are the 2 shots that got into the Honorable Mention list.

Honorable Mention in People – Children category for the winning entry “Joy”

Honorable Mention in People – Wedding category for the winning entry “Unwavering Love”

Destination . Paris

My wife and I have decided to embark on our 2nd honeymoon to Paris, in May 2010 & we would like to invite you lovebirds to walk down the streets of Old Paris with us, as we breathe in the romance and capture the charms of one of the most lovely city in the world.

We are offering a fantastic package for couples who wish to have their Bridal / Casual Portrait Sessions in the City of Lights. How fantastic you might ask? Well, let’s just say that, since we are going there with or without you, the photographer’s airfare is pretty much out of the equation. Sounds good? Well it is! haha

Do note though that slots are limited as we are taking up a maximum of 3 couples only at the end of our personal trip, with the photoshoot dates estimated to be between 15 – 18 May.

For those interested, drop me a MAIL immediately as we will be confirming our flights before the end of February.

Out of Town Notice

Dear All.

Joho and I will be away in Melbourne for a week or so. Do continue to send in those inquiries as we should still have internet access in the land down under. Have a great week ahead, and best of luck to all the guys going for MPA grading this year!
