Amidst the gloomy outlook over the past few days (being down with flu and all) I received some good news which cheered me up a little. I submitted 4 images for the International Photography Awards (IPA) a few months back, of which 2 of them received Honorable Mention! Obviously it is disappointing not to get the top prizes but considering there were nearly 15,000 submissions from 103 countries across the globe. Coming up against so many top photographers worldwide and appearing in the honorable mention list ain’t too shabby anymore if you ask me :)

IPA is a sister-effort of the Lucie Foundation, where the top three winners are announced at the annual Lucie Awards gala ceremony. The Foundation’s mission is to honor master photographers, to discover new and emerging talent and to promote the appreciation of photography. Since 2003, IPA has had the privilege and opportunity to acknowledge and recognize contemporary photographers’ accomplishments in this specialized and highly visible competition. Visit www.photoawards.com for more details.

Here are the 2 shots that got into the Honorable Mention list.

Honorable Mention in People – Children category for the winning entry “Joy”

Honorable Mention in People – Wedding category for the winning entry “Unwavering Love”

More before and after shots to scrutinize! :P

As always the image on the left, is usually the unedited or very basically touched up version of the original shot.

Before another one of our relic disappears, I am happy to have shot at least one of my couple @ the KTM Railway Station in Tanjong Pagar.

Here’s a preview for the lovely couple, Alvin & Claire.

I blogged about a casual photoshoot I took part in with Amos a while back. It’s not about the makeup, gowns or suits. There’s no inhibition, no fear, no restrictions, only true love, as is. We call it, Love.Actually! Enjoy the slideshow :)

Some shots to share from Daniel & Yvonne’s wedding day. Amazingly, I have another couple next year called Daniel & Yvon (sans the ne at the back). These names must be a heavenly match! :)

Had a really fun casual shoot today, together with Amos and his wedding couple Anthony & Gina. It has really been a while since I did a casual shoot, and it just reminded me, just how fun and relaxing such photoshoots are. It is probably more fun when we don’t have to care about dirtying the gowns/suits and just be ourselves. If only I have more time to work on such projects! hmmmmmm

I have been blessed with more than a truckload of fantastic clients/couples during my career thus far. And I am really thankful for all the care, concern, respect, support & love that they showered upon me all this while. I could have been just that camera man who was snooping around for their wedding day, and easily be forgotten a year after. But I am really glad that isn’t the case and that I have built some fantastic friendships along the way, long may this continue.

This was none more evident than last night when I met with a very jovial couple Wenxiang & Irene! Before I could even say, “please take a sit on my comfy couch”, I was fed with nice crispy chicken wings and mouth watering brownies! I did not even have to pull out any drinks from my fridge! Which is probably a first for me! hahaha We went on to have a smashing great time, not just chatting about images or my career but about everything that led us to where we are now and it was really amazing to find out that we have so much in common! It went from common friends who had their weddings covered by me, to us all living in Tampines (in fact Wenxiang is living right next to my block lar! haha), to a common primary school and shockingly common secondary school too! Wenxiang even proposed to Irene @ Jewel box which was near to/exactly the same place I proposed to my wife years ago!

It’s amazing that despite all these similarities, I totally would not have gotten to know them, had I not become a photographer. Now that will be a real bummer.

As mentioned in an earlier post, I am starting a series of before and after (editing) shots, to show everyone how to enhance and image to give it a little more punch. I won’t be able to tell you the exact steps I took to achieve the image, cos i probably don’t remember, but if you have any questions on the logic of why I edit in a certain way, feel free to post your views and I will try my best to answer them if i can.
